In Benin City, Edo State, a young guy is charged with fatally stabbing his lover. The suspect, Victor Ifakachukwu, was detained and sent to the hospital after sustaining severe wounds in what appeared to be a fatal knife attack inside his home.

The event happened at a house on 10, Osahon Street in the Ogheghe Quarters, which is off Sapele Road in Benin City. When the violence broke out, the couple reportedly barricaded themselves inside the home. On Monday, August 21, 2023, at around 4 p.m., the landlord, Mr. Emmanuel Momoh, reported the event to the police.

Police discovered two knives stained with blood, a laptop, two iPhones, and a Nokia phone in the apartment. The suspect is currently under close observation at an undisclosed hospital, awaiting consciousness to potentially provide insight into the crime.

Edo State Police Command’s spokesperson, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, confirmed the incident to the Nigerian Tribune and stated that a comprehensive investigation has been initiated. Detectives will work to uncover the details of the altercation between the couple.

In the meantime, security personnel involved in the removal of the deceased girl’s body noted that no body parts were missing. One of them remarked, “Upon entering the house, there was a significant amount of blood, suggesting that they engaged in mutual stabbing during a quarrel. It appears the girl fought back with all her strength. We’ll have a clearer understanding once the young man regains consciousness and shares what unfolded in the house.”
