Three people are been held by the Ogun State Police Command in connection with an alleged armed robbery gang that is terrorising polytechnic students in the villages of Ode Remo and Ipara.
Remember that some female students of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, who reside in off-campus dormitories, were raped by armed bandits who broke into Ode Remo and took their personal belongings?
In retaliation, students from the university stormed the campus with signs protesting the attack on their peers.
The suspects denied being involved in the attack, but one of them was identified by the victim, according to command spokeswoman SP Omolola Odutola, who announced the arrest in a statement on Tuesday, November 28, 2023.
“Significant progress has been made by the Ogun State Police Command in capturing suspected armed robbers and recovering a gun and ammunition from three armed men who had invaded Ode Remo and Ipara, raped female students, and terrorised the local postsecondary institution, according to the statement.
After their most recent heist operation, one of the three young guys terrorising Gateway Polytechnic was identified by a victim, although the accused initially denied any involvement.
After the Commissioner of Police, CP ALAMUTU ABIODUN MUSTAPHA psc, called a security summit, a proactive operation based on intelligence was carried out in reaction to recent gunshot events at Gateway Polytechnic.
“On the 27th of November 2023, the Police, in collaboration with other security agencies, implemented a stop and search operation in Ode Remo and Ipara area.
“A group of three alleged armed young men were apprehended on a motorbike during the operation. The accused used violent tactics in an attempt to avoid being arrested, but they were ultimately caught.
Taiwo Oredoyin ‘M’, aged 27, Taiwo Kuti ‘M’, aged 35, and Folorunsho Saheed ‘M’, aged 36, are the three suspects that were detained; they are all residents of Isara town in Ogun State. When authorities searched them, they found two Samsung phones and a locally made handgun with two live rounds.
