In order to profit from insurance plans, a 49-year-old lady is accused of planning the deaths of her husband and three children, among other relatives. She was taken into custody in South Africa.
After family members voiced suspicions, an intelligence operation resulted in the woman’s detention.
On Friday, November 17, 2023, she will appear before the Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court for the first time.
According to Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, a spokesman for the National South African Police Service (SAPS), Sergeant Keshi Mabunda and a group of investigators had been working on the case for the past two months after receiving a tip from the suspect’s family.
Mabunda was brought in to begin the investigation because of his experience in resolving situations of a similar nature.
She clarified that a forensic team was able to connect the connections when the body of one of the woman’s relatives was exhumed.
“The murder, which was first investigated as a “natural death,” occurred in Mmabatho, in the North West, when a female relative passed away in March 2023 under suspicious circumstances. According to investigations, the suspect falsely obtained insurance for her relative before she was killed, according to Mathe.
She added that the team is also investigating the deaths of the suspect’s son who died in July 2023, her husband who died in 2016 and her two daughters who died in 2015 and 2005.
National South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson, Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said for the past two months, Sergeant Keshi Mabunda and a team of detectives have been working on the case following a tip-off from relatives of the suspect.
Mabunda was roped in to kick-start investigations due to his expertise in solving similar cases.
She explained that the body of one of the woman’s relatives was exhumed, and a forensic team was able to link the dots.
“The murder that was initially ruled a ‘natural death’ happened in Mmabatho in the North West, where a female relative died under mysterious circumstances in March 2023. Investigations have revealed that the suspect fraudulently took out insurance on behalf of her relative prior to her murder,” Mathe said.
She added that the team is also investigating the deaths of the suspect’s son who died in July 2023, her husband who died in 2016 and her two daughters who died in 2015 and 2005.
