At Comfort Empowerment and Advocacy Foundation (CEAF), every story we encounter reminds us why our mission is urgent and necessary. Domestic violence is not just about physical scars; it is about years of emotional, mental, and financial control that leave survivors feeling powerless and isolated.

This is the story of a woman who has been married for 21 years, silently enduring emotional abuse at the hands of her husband, a man she describes as narcissistic. On top of this, she has faced serious health challenges, including a major surgery (hysterectomy), which left her feeling mentally and emotionally withdrawn.
When she reached out to CEAF, her words were filled with desperation. She wanted therapy but could not afford it, as she had been financially disempowered by her husband. For her, therapy was not just about survival, it was about finding herself again.
CEAF’s Intervention
At CEAF, we believe no survivor should be left without help because of financial barriers. We immediately linked her to our partner organization, Olive Community Development Initiative (OCDI), an NGO in her state that provides free therapy services.
Through OCDI, she was connected to a psychologist, and her journey toward healing began.
Session 1: The intake session focused on understanding her concerns, mental health, and goals.
Session 2: At her request, a joint session was held with her husband. She expressed a desire for him to walk the healing journey with her.
Session 3: The therapist worked with her individually on self-reconnection, happiness, and personal goals. She spoke about finding joy in attending women’s programs and setting up business goals.
Why This Story Matters
This case sheds light on two realities:
* Survivors of domestic violence urgently need emotional, psychological, and legal support.
* NGOs must remain vigilant in managing resources to ensure that help reaches those who truly need it.
At CEAF, we remain committed to breaking the cycle of abuse whether through therapy, advocacy, legal intervention, or awareness. We believe survivors should never have to choose between suffering in silence or facing barriers to help. Their healing is our mission.
✦ If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, please reach out. CEAF is here to support, guide, and stand with you. Together, we can end the cycle of abuse.
