37-year-old HIV-positive man is given a life sentence

Ekeke, an agricultural labourer from Ndioru in the state’s Ikwuano Local Government Area, admitted to having HIV but insisted that his doctor had “flushed” away his viral load.
The Presiding Magistrate, N. Lekwa, gave her judgement on the subject and stated that Ekeke had been found guilty of child defilement at the last sitting of the court.
The prosecution praised the court’s judgement for being in accordance with the legislation against child abuse.
Ekeke had been released from prison on a conspiracy conviction before receiving the life term.
while a second defendant was exonerated because there was insufficient proof connecting
to the crime was him.
Ekeke begged for forgiveness despite admitting to have had sexual contact with the child.
Ekeke allegedly broke into the girl’s parents’ house as the mother left to get some supplies, according to reports.
He escorted the little girl into one of the building’s rooms, where he violated her and hurt her private areas.
He was quickly recognised by a neighbour who seen him enter the property, which led to
his detention.
The suspect was interrogated by the audience and denied defiling the young girl, saying instead that “I only carried her in my laps and touched her in the genitals.”
He added that he had come to pay back a N3,000 debt he had to someone in the yard.
Ekeke was then turned over to the Police for an investigation and prosecution after blaming the devil for his terrible deed.
