In the Sango-Ota area of Ogun State, a 21-year-old mother named Esther Ojuko has been taken into custody on suspicion of killing her newborn daughter.

On Sunday, November 26, 2023, residents of Sango-Ota’s Oyede Avenue Plaza discovered the decomposing body of a newborn baby in their area. This led to the suspect’s arrest.

According to a police source who spoke to The Punch, the suspect killed the mother by stuffing the infant into a sack and tossing her into a nearby compound. It was thought that the mother had delivered the baby alive.

It was reported that several locals started searching the region for the cause of the offensive stink when it started to take over.

Later on, a local realised that the source of the stench was a sack behind a nearby compound.

One of the residents, only known as Ogunmuyiwa, reportedly went to the Sango-Ota Police Division to report the crime once it was discovered.

According to a police source, the mother may have been mentally unstable when the crime was committed.

The mother had been taken into custody, according to Omolola Odutola, a spokesman for the state police command, who verified the occurrence to the publication on Monday, November 7.

“The mother is in our custody for suspected murder. We have begun a full investigation into the circumstances behind her action. In the meantime, the deceased baby has been deposited at the Ifo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy,” she said.
