Oladokun Ayomide, a final-year student at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, has been detained by the Ogun State police on suspicion of poisoning his lover Ugbokwe Mmasichukwu and another woman, Odumosu Semilore.
Ayomide was a final-year student at FUNAAB, while Mmasichukwu and Semilore attend the Federal College of Education, Abeokuta.
The suspect allegedly invited his girlfriend to his home in the Surulere neighbourhood of the Camp neighbourhood of the city on Friday, at which point he allegedly gave her a poison that is thought to be a concoction of brownie cakes, vodka, and an unidentified toxic substance.
Before leaving for the suspect’s residence, Mmasichukwu told her schoolmate, Semilore, to accompany her to her boyfriend’s place at Surulere community, Camp, Abeokuta.
The suspect allegedly offered them the drugs that had an adverse effect on their health when they were at his house. After eating the dangerous cake, the victims lost consciousness right away, and they were taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Omolola Odutola, the public relations officer for the Ogun State Police Command, confirmed the event to Punch and stated that additional investigation was on to determine the facts surrounding the occurrence. The victims were responding to treatment, she added.
“The victims were believed to have been fed brownie cake, and they immediately lost consciousness after eating it and were taken to the Osiele Medical Centre for treatment. A foil paper pack used for the brownie cake was found when our officers visited the crime scene. The suspect was handed over to the police division by the Chief Security Officer of the school,” Odutola said
