Jegede Folorunsho, 54, has been sent under remand to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre after it was alleged that he defiled an eight-year-old girl in the Lagos State neighbourhood of Mushin.
On Monday, November 20, 2023, the defendant appeared in Magistrate O.M. Ajayi’s Magistrate Court in the state’s Ebute Metta district and was charged with defiling a minor.
In addition to demanding that the defendant be placed under arrest, the police came Folorunsho with a remand application, asking the court to allow them to copy the case file and forward it to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions for legal counsel.
On October 4, 2023, at No. 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin, Lagos, Folorunsho is accused of sexually assaulting the victim, according to the police prosecutor Paul Ugorji, who testified in court.
Ugorji claims that when the victim filed charges, the defendant was taken into custody by the Mushin Police Division, and the case was then forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba for a covert investigation.
According to Ugorji, the crime violated Section 137 of the Lagos State, Nigeria, 2015 Criminal Law.
However, the police produced a confessional statement that the defendant had written to the court.
The charge accompanied by the 12-paragraph remand application read, “That you, Jegede Folorunsho, on October 4, 2023, at No 4 Adegbite Lane, Mushin Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did defile one girl (name withheld), a minor of eight years, by having carnal knowledge of her and thereby, committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
Following the remand application, the defendant’s plea was not taken.

The magistrate granted the prayer of the police and ordered that the defendant be remanded to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.
She also ordered that the case file be sent to the DPP for legal advice.
She further adjourned the case till December 15, 2023, for the DPP’s advice.
