Amina Hassan, a 20-year-old bride from Mubi North LGA in Adamawa state, was detained by the police after she set her husband’s house on fire because he wouldn’t grant her a divorce.
After around five weeks of marriage, the suspect wed Muhammad Auwal. She claimed to the authorities that she burned the house down because her husband would not call it quits on their relationship.
“After the marriage, we agreed that he would divorce me. When I first met him, I begged him to get a divorce, but he refused. Instead of divorcing me, he attacked me and began hitting me, which made me lose my cool and set the house on fire “, she continued.
Residents of the community say few days to the wedding, Amina told her parents that she was no longer interested in the marriage, but her parents said there was no going back because they had distributed invitation cards. After the marriage, the bride sought for a help from a native doctor to turn the heart of her husband away from her or make him to hate her so that he will divorce her.
The native doctor collected N12,000 from her for the job, followed all the appropriate procedures, and was able to accomplish the agreed-upon outcome of turning her heart further away from him rather than his. She bemoaned the fact that the indigenous physician had moved on to Maiduguri in Borno State and that his phone number was no longer accessible.
SP Suleiman Nguroje, the state police command’s spokesperson, confirmed the occurrence and stated that the police are currently conducting more inquiry.
